Questions on Using CBD

How do I take CBD?

There are numerous options available for the use of CBD. It can be taken as:

  • Sublingual Tinctures
  • Pressed Pills
  • Gel Capsules
  • Topical treatments (Lotions and Salves)
  • Vapeable products

While there are some differences between forms, the majority of applications can be used in whatever way is most convenient. Visit our education center to learn more about these options.

How much CBD should I take?

What is the best CBD dosage for you? The answer is it’s not a clear cut one but instead a general one that is determined by you. Some of the factors are your body size, physical condition, age and the severity of your symptoms.

The more severe your symptoms the more CBD you will likely need to get the desired effect. However, that isn’t always the case because more doesn’t always mean better. It’s best to start with a small introductory dosage of approximately 20mg (for adults) taken every 4-6 hours as needed.

If the starting dose is not having the desired effect, then gradually increase your dosage by 5-10mg until you reach your desired result. Absorption rates for CBD rely on myriad factors. There is a limit to bio-availability and taking too much will not produce a stronger effect. Our maximum recommended dosage is 50mg.

You should, of course, always consult your healthcare provider before using CBD products.

Is there a limit on how often I can take CBD?

You cannot overdose on CBD, therefore there is technically no limit on how often you can take it. There is, however, a limit to how much your body can effectively absorb the CBD: we call this bio-availability. Taking more CBD past this point will not have any significant difference on its effects.

Always consult your healthcare provider before using CBD.

What is the best way to take CBD?

The best way to take CBD is based on personal preference. The most common way people prefer their CBD is in tincture form because they can take it sublingually, or add it to food and drinks.

That being said, taking CBD by putting it under your tongue will lead to more effective absorption into your bloodstream.

Can I put my CBD in food?

So long as the CBD is in a form that is safe for direct consumption, it is safe to use in already prepared food.

If you decide to cook with CBD, keep in mind that heating the oil over 120 degrees will overheat it and potentially make it lose its potency. In addition, its important to start slow: begin with a small dose and work your way up. Use caution when cooking with MCT oil.

Do not use our VGPG concentrates or flavored CBD e-liquid for cooking.

I'm allergic to coconut - is there an MCT oil alternative?

If you have a coconut allergy, then it is best to seek an alternative. Luckily, we carry a tincture suspended in food-grade propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, though these tinctures only come in unflavored versions.

Can I give CBD to my pets? If so, how much?

Dosing CBD isn’t an exact science, and its important to find what works best for your dog’s needs. Always start small at the lowest dose and increase slowly until desired effect is reached. While adverse reactions and side-effects to CBD are rare, sometimes the carrier oil can cause an upset stomach in your dog if they take too much too soon. Use only our Pet Tincture for your dog or cat.

In general, here’s the CBD dosing range we’d recommend for dogs:

  • 5 pounds: 0.5mg – 3mg
  • 10 pounds: 1mg – 5mg
  • 20 pounds: 2mg – 10mg
  • 30 pounds: 3mg – 15mg
  • 40 pounds: 4mg – 20mg
  • 50 – 60 pounds: 5mg – 25mg
  • 70 – 80 pounds: 7mg – 30mg

To be taken twice daily, once with breakfast and again at dinner.

Eclipse is not a medical or veterinary company and does not give medical advice.

Our VG/PG based CBD Tinctures are not intended for consumption by animals. Animals are far more sensitive to propylene glycol than humans, and should not be used.

You should always consult your Veterinarian before using any of our products for your dogs.

Questions about CBD

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid found in the Cannabis Sativa plant. There are two distinct strains of Cannabis Sativa: those grown for concentrations of CBD and industrial textile use (Hemp), and those grown for concentrations of THC (Marijuana). All Eclipse CBD products are made from hemp plants.

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and therefore does not produce any euphoric or psychoactive effects (a “High”). The concentrations of THC found in hemp products are strictly enforced through federal regulation, and frequently tested by 3rd party facilities to ensure that products are legal and non-psychoactive.

CBD is a compound with profound medical properties, and is safe for humans, as well as pets, to take regularly.

How does CBD work?

Humans and animals possess something called an endocannabinoid system, or the ECS. The way CBD works exactly is still a mystery, with many researchers worldwide seeking answers. Unlike popular belief, CBD does not bind directly to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body. Instead, it has a plethora of molecular interactions that enable the body to produce its own cannabinoids. CBD also acts as a reuptake inhibitor, meaning that it allows cannabinoids to remain in the system for a longer amount of time.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a system dedicated to maintaining homeostasis. Homeostasis is a relatively stable equilibrium, or balance, between multiple interdependent bodily processes. For example, our body regulates our blood sugar through the release of something called insulin. These interdependent systems regulate each other to maintain a constant.

Although there is still much to learn about the system, scientists have discovered that the ECS largely regulates many bodily functions including sleep, mood, pain, memory, and more.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the compounds found in both the hemp and marijuana plant. They are present in our own bodies as well, contained in the endocannabinoid system. Each cannabinoid has a different function. There are many different cannabinoids, more than we know of currently, but the most notable ones are: CBD, CBN, CBG, CBC, CBD-A, THC, and CBG.

What is the difference between isolate and full spectrum CBD?

Though they’re both still CBD in the end, the primary difference between isolate and full spectrum is that full spectrum is much closer to the whole plant blend. Isolate is composed of only cannabidiol, as everything else is extracted during a process called CO2 extraction.

Full spectrum, on the other hand, contains the full range of cannabinoids, including a minimal amount of THC, though not enough to trigger a false positive on a drug test. Having all cannabinoids available produces something called ‘the entourage effect’.

In a nutshell, the entourage effect is the interaction between cannabinoids that produces an effect larger than the sum of its parts. To learn more about the entourage effect, continue through our FAQ.

What's the 'entourage effect'?

The entourage effect is when CBD interacts with other compounds from the whole plant to make an effect greater than the sum of its parts. Having these different compounds work with each other in a synergistic process that affects many different areas in the human body. The result is an overall more positive state of wellness with minimal side effects.

What should I consider when I buy CBD?

When buying CBD, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are there lab tests readily available?
  • What ingredients are used in the product?
  • What will you need it for – minor aches and pains, or anxiety and major muscular discomfort?
  • How do you prefer to take CBD – sublingually, in an edible, vaping et

It’s important to be aware of how readily available a company’s lab tests are. Lab results will confirm the amount of CBD in your product, whether or not there are heavy metals present, and the ingredients listed on the packaging.

As always, make sure the product does not contain compounds you are or may be allergic to.

Legal Questions

Is CBD legal?

Industrial Hemp was made legal by the federal government on Dec. 10 2018, but allows states to make its own local policies on allowed use and legality. Some states allow CBD products but only through a specific licensed store or dispensary, while others allow all products below the federal threshold, and some regulate it similar to medical marijuana. Check your specific state laws for legality state by state.

What is the US Farm Bill?

The 2018 Farm Bill is a piece of legislation that removes hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, and provides a clear distinction between hemp and marijuana.

Will CBD get me high?

No, CBD will not get you high. If your product is responsibly produced, lab certified, and packaged securely, there is little to no risk of psychoactive effects.

Will I fail a drug test if I take CBD?

You will not fail a drug test while taking CBD if you adhere to all of the packaging instructions and keep your product safe.

Keep full spectrum products out of sunlight. These products contain deltas that can turn into CBD when exposed to direct sunlight. This may cause a false positive.

What does third party lab-tested mean?

Third-party lab tested means that we send everything to a lab that is in no way affiliated with Eclipse. Our products are 100% independently tested and we have no influence over our lab results other than the quality of our product.

What is your testing process?

We test our products three times. We first test our raw materials. Then, we do a batch test on the bulk of our product. Finally, we test the final product to check for consistency.

While triple-testing can be viewed as a costly expensive, we see it as a worthy investment. We’re invested in making sure our products are consistently high quality.

Where can I find your lab test results?

You can find our lab results by clicking here.
