CBD Products and Small Dogs: What Research is Starting to Show

If you’ve ever wondered if CBD is a good option for your furry friend, then there’s some good news! Research is showing CBD may be useful to your dachshund and other small dogs. Here are just a few ways CBD can help:

  • Supporting aging and stiff joints
  • Fights separation anxiety, noise anxiety, and travel anxiety
  • Studies have shown CBD can reduce the occurrence of seizures in dogs
  • Some research suggests CBD’s role as an anti-inflammatory can help relieve symptoms of allergies and itching in dogs, promoting a sense of calm

How Much CBD Should I Give My Dog?

Dosing CBD isn’t an exact science, and it’s important to find what works best for your dog’s needs. Always start small and if needed slowly increase dosage. While adverse reactions and side-effects to CBD are rare, sometimes the carrier oil can cause stomach upset in dogs if they take too much over a short period of time. In general, here’s the CBD dosing range we’d recommend for small dogs:

  • 5 pounds: 0.5mg – 3 mg
  • 10 pounds: 1 mg – 5 mg
  • 20 pounds: 2 mg – 10 mg
  • 30 pounds: 3 mg – 15 mg
  • 40 pounds: 4 mg – 20 mg

For pain, you’ll need to allow 2-4 weeks to see best results. For anxiety, many small pet owners see results in as little as 30-60 minutes.

What’s The Best Way to Give CBD Oil to My Dog?

If your pup allows it, consider giving the CBD oil directly in their mouth with a dropper. This method allows for best and fastest absorption since the oil is absorbed sublingually (in the tongue and gums) and bypasses the digestive system. Alternatively, you can place CBD oil directly on their food or on their favorite treat.

Why Eclipse CBD MCT is the Best CBD Oil for Your Pet

Before you decide on a CBD product for your pet, consider the following:

  • Choose a CBD product that is 100% free of THC which can be toxic to many dogs
  • Avoid Vegetable Glycerin (VG) or Propylene Glycol (PG) based CBD products because they are harmful to dogs

Eclipse CBD offers a number of flavored and unflavored CBD products with MCT oil that are perfect for pets. All of our MCT-based products are THC-free and do not contain any VG or PG. You can view all of our CBD MCT products here. As we mentioned earlier, start small on the dosages and move up from there.

All our products have a Certificate of Analysis (COA) done by an independent lab to ensure the product contains the amount of CBD claimed (example 600mg). You can view an example of a COA (LAB) on our reports page here. Most other companies do not have independent lab tests or have just a COA on the CBD (not what is in the bottle) so you have no way of knowing what is actually in the product. Choosing a product with a proper lab is a must.
